Openbook

UserVoice alternative

The UserVoice alternative that’s free right now

Openbook replaces UserVoice with a full agent-first workspace — boards, docs, chat and 18 room types, with AI agents that write stories, build changes and open pull requests. Every feature is free right now: no seat limits, no trial clock, no credit card.

The alternative

What you get instead of UserVoice

Not a clone — a whole workspace. Here's where Openbook goes beyond UserVoice.

The request and the work are in one place

In UserVoice a validated request eventually becomes a Jira ticket, and from that moment there are two records of the same idea that drift apart. In Openbook the roadmap column a request sits in is a board your team plans in, so there is nothing to sync and nothing to reconcile.

Boards you shape rather than configure

An Openbook feedback room holds as many boards as you like, each typed: feedback, roadmap with columns you name and reorder, or changelog. Standing up a board for a specific launch, a specific segment or a specific question takes seconds and needs nobody's approval.

Priced for a team, not a department

UserVoice is an enterprise purchase with pricing to match, and it sits on top of whatever you already pay for project management, docs and chat. Openbook's feedback room is included in the same plan as every other room type.

Useful on day one without a research practice

UserVoice rewards teams who have someone whose job is feedback. Openbook assumes nobody owns it full-time: the portal, the roadmap and the changelog work out of the box, and the revenue numbers are there when you want to rank by them.

Honest advice

Who should switch — and who should stay

Switch to Openbook if…

  • Teams who want customer feedback to sit beside the board where the work gets planned.
  • Companies without a dedicated research or feedback owner who still want the loop closed properly.
  • Product teams who would rather shape their own boards than configure a fixed enterprise workflow.

Stay on UserVoice if…

  • Large product organisations where dozens of employees file feedback on behalf of customers.
  • Teams who must back roadmap decisions with survey and validation evidence.
  • Companies with procurement requirements for SAML SSO, audit logs and formal compliance.

Switching

Moving off is a day, not a quarter

Create a workspace, pick a space template, and the rooms are ready — boards seeded, check-ins scheduled, feed live. Most teams rebuild their active boards in an afternoon and let the old tool expire at renewal rather than migrating years of archive.

You don’t have to move everything at once: rooms are independent, so many teams start with the one room that replaces UserVoice and add the rest as other renewals come up.

FAQ

UserVoice alternative questions

What is the best free alternative to UserVoice?+

Openbook — it covers what UserVoice does inside a full workspace (boards, docs, chat, whiteboards and 18 room types, plus AI agents that do real work), and every feature is free right now with no seat limits and no trial clock.

Can Openbook replace UserVoice?+

For the core loop, yes: a public portal, voting, duplicate merging, a roadmap driven by status, a changelog that notifies the people who voted, and revenue attached to each request. What it does not replace is the research side — surveys and validation studies — or the enterprise governance layer of internal contributor roles, SAML SSO and audit logs.

We have account managers who file feedback for customers. Does that work?+

Yes, in a simpler form. Anyone on your team can post a request and vote on behalf of a customer, and the request carries the company behind it so the revenue rolls up correctly. What Openbook does not have is UserVoice's moderation queue and contributor permission tiers, which matter once dozens of people are filing daily.

Do customers need an account to post?+

No. The portal has its own link and works signed out. A visitor is remembered by their browser, so their votes and posts are recognised when they return, and if they leave an email they are told when the thing they asked for ships.

How does prioritising by revenue work?+

You track companies and users with their ARR and MRR, and votes carry the customer behind them. Each request shows the monthly revenue it represents and the list can be sorted by it. You can define your own scoring factors and weight them, and save segments such as "paying customers" to re-rank the list through that lens.

How does pricing compare?+

Openbook's feedback room is part of the same plan as every other room type: free for teams up to 10, or $15 per user per month on Pro. UserVoice is an enterprise product quoted per organisation and sits on top of whatever you already pay for project management.
