Time Off room
PTO without the spreadsheet
Request types, an approval queue or auto-approve, a who's-off view, and a team capacity chart. Time off gets requested, approved, and visible in one place.

Time Off handles the whole PTO loop. People pick a request type, vacation, sick leave, whatever your policy defines, and submit. Requests land in an approval queue for a manager, or skip straight through if you set the type to auto-approve. No forms, no email chains, no spreadsheet named final_v7.
Then it makes absence visible. The who's-off view answers the daily question of who's around, and the team capacity chart shows how much of the team is actually available in a given stretch, which is exactly what you want open during sprint or project planning.
What you get
Everything inside Time Off
Request types
Vacation, sick days, and whatever else your policy needs, each as its own request type with its own handling.
Approval queue
Requests line up for managers in one queue. Approve from one place instead of excavating your inbox.
Auto-approve
For request types that don't need a human decision, turn on auto-approve and let the process run itself.
Who's-off view
See at a glance who is out and when. The answer to "is Dana around this week" stops being a DM.
Team capacity chart
See how much of the team is available over time, so plans are made against real capacity, not assumed headcount.
In your workspace
Time off lives where the team already works, with Openbook's notifications, instead of in a separate HR portal login.
Made for moments like these
- Approve the week's PTO requests from one queue on Monday morning
- Check the capacity chart before committing the sprint scope in August
- Auto-approve single sick days while routing vacations to managers
- Glance at who's off before scheduling the client workshop

FAQ
Common questions
Can we match our own leave policy?+
Request types are configurable, so vacation, sick leave, and other categories your policy defines each get their own type. Each can go through the approval queue or be set to auto-approve, so the process matches how your company actually handles each kind of leave.
How do approvals work?+
Requests go into an approval queue where managers review and decide. If a request type doesn't need review, set it to auto-approve and it goes through instantly. Requesters see the outcome without chasing anyone.
How do we see team availability?+
Two views. The who's-off view shows who is out and when, day to day. The team capacity chart shows availability across time, so planning conversations start from how many people you'll really have.
Do we still need a separate PTO tool?+
For requesting, approving, and seeing time off, no. Time Off is one of Openbook's 18 room types, included on the free plan, so the PTO tracker becomes one more line item you stop paying for.
