Openbook

Plans & pricing

Compare Openbook's Free, Pro, and Business plans and see how a plan covers your whole organization.

Who a plan belongs to

Plans in Openbook belong to the organization, not to individual people or spaces. Every member with edit access is a seat on that one plan, and all of the organization's spaces share it — you never pick a plan per space or per project.

If you belong to two organizations, each organization's own plan covers you there. Your access in one organization never depends on what the other one pays for.

You manage everything from Organization → Settings → Billing.

Free gives you the full product in miniature: all 21 room types, space and board templates, search, and every AI feature, with limits on members who can write, spaces, and chat-room history.

Pro removes the limits: unlimited members and spaces, full chat and feed history, dashboards, proofing rooms, and priority support.

Business is everything in Pro plus advanced permissions and dedicated support.

A plan carries no AI allowance, and credits no longer exist. AI that the platform pays for is metered against a token allowance on the owner's Bookbag account, shared across Openbook, Madebook and Bookbag, and set by a platform admin at the account service — not by the plan. Every plan, Free included, gets the same treatment. An organization that brings its own provider key is not metered at all. See AI usage & the token allowance.

Single sign-on is not an add-on here: every account signs in through the Bookbag account service on every plan. The Board API and the Board MCP server are likewise available on every plan.

The principles behind the pricing

Exact seats, nothing rounded. A seat is a member who can create or edit. Billing is exact-seat — there are no 5-seat increments — and seat changes prorate to the day. See Seats, viewers & guests for the details.

Viewers and guests never count. On any plan, viewers and guests are always free. You only pay for people who can create and edit.

AI is not part of the plan. Your organization chooses on its own AI page whether to bring its own provider keys — OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, xAI, Google or Azure OpenAI, or a server of its own — or to let the platform run the models. Openbook resells no tokens and charges no AI add-on fee on any plan, and the plans do not differ on AI at all. What bounds the AI the platform runs is a token allowance on the owner's account, which lives at the Bookbag account service and is shared with every Bookbag product. See AI configuration and AI usage & the token allowance.

Trials and grandfathered pricing

Every new organization starts on Pro automatically for 14 days, with no card required — see Trials & upgrading for the timeline and how to subscribe.

Accounts that subscribed at the old $8 price keep it for as long as the subscription stays active.

If a trial ends or you downgrade, the organization moves to Free with its limits applied — but nothing is ever deleted, and anything that gets locked comes back when you upgrade. Downgrades & the Free plan covers exactly what locks.
