What a Feed room is

A Feed room is a social feed for work. People post updates, run polls, share files, and give recognition, and the team reads, reacts, and replies — the same pattern as the social apps everyone already uses, applied to company news. Unlike chat, posts stay put: a Feed is where you put things the whole team should see, not fast back-and-forth.

Add a Feed room

1. Open the space's sidebar and click +.
2. Pick the Feed room type and name it.
3. Set visibility: everyone in the space, or only certain people.

A company-wide announcements feed usually stays open to everyone. A leadership or department feed can be restricted to the people who need it.

Posting

Compose a post and choose what it carries. One composer covers every post type:

• Text, images, and files — a written update with attachments.
• Polls — five poll formats, from quick votes to structured questions, with results visible to the team.
• Events — share something with a date on it directly in the feed.
• Announcements — updates that should read as official.
• Kudos — public recognition for a teammate or a team, kept in the feed rather than lost in a channel.

Use @mentions in posts and comments to pull specific people in; they get notified.

Reacting and replying

Readers respond with any of seven emoji reactions, or reply in threaded comments under the post. Threads keep each conversation attached to the post it belongs to, so a busy feed stays readable. @mentions inside comments notify the people named.

Pinning and the bulletin board

Two tools keep important content from scrolling away:

• Pin a post to hold it at the top of the feed until you unpin it. Pin the all-hands recap, the policy change, the deadline reminder — anything everyone must see.
• The bulletin board sidebar sits next to the feed and collects announcements, birthdays, trending posts, and resources in one persistent panel.

Unpin posts once they have done their job. A stack of stale pins trains people to skip past the top of the feed.

Notifications

Openbook sends in-app and email notifications for @mentions, comments, and announcements, so people hear about posts that concern them without watching the feed. You do not need a separate process to make sure an announcement lands.

Tips

• Post the weekly recap with the deck attached and pin it through the end of the week.
• Replace long email vote threads with a poll — one post, visible results.
• Make kudos a habit after launches and crunch weeks; recognition in the feed is public and permanent.
• Announce new hires in the feed so the team can welcome them in the comments.
• Use roles and visibility to keep an announcements feed high-signal: everyone can read, a smaller set can post.

FAQ

How is Feed different from a Chat room? Chat is fast and conversational; Feed is deliberate and persistent. Feed adds polls, events, announcements, pinning, and the bulletin board sidebar. Use Chat to talk, Feed to publish.

Can we control who posts announcements? Yes. Openbook's roles (Owner, Admin, Member, Viewer) plus per-room visibility let you decide who can see the feed and who can manage what happens in it.

Do people get notified about new posts? @mentions, comments, and announcements trigger in-app and email notifications. Nobody has to refresh the feed to stay current.

Is Feed on the free plan? Yes. All 21 room types, including Feed, are included on the Free plan.
